Launching The Legal Design Journal with Michael Doherty

The Legal Design Journal is the first academic journal about legal design. The journal is a groundbreaking achievement in the legal design space. The journal features academic articles and a platform to showcase work from practicing lawyers and design consultants. The journal draws on the expertise of 26 experts across 13 countries who specialize in the academic, legal, and design disciplines. User research informed the final product because practitioners want a place to publish academic work, and users want practical examples of using legal design in their work.

The Legal Design Journal was formally launched at the 4th Legal Design Summit in Helsinki in September 2023, and the first issue is due in June 2024. Many great legal designers whom we love and respect regard the Journal as one of the most important projects in building networks, partnerships, and innovation in our growing field of legal design.

Michael Doherty is a Professor of Law and Associate Head of the Law School at Lancaster University. He is a co-author of Public Law (3rd ed, Routledge 2023). He is active in legal education scholarship, co-created the Connecting Legal Education online community, and is a former Chair of the Association of Law Teachers. Michael’s legal and service design work encompasses education, cultural studies, and disciplinarity. He is the founding editor-in-chief of Legal Design Journal.
