The Future of Legal Design with Nina Toivonen and Henna Tolvanen

The future of Legal Design is positive. This week on Legal Design IRL, we chat with two pioneering legal design lawyers and legal design podcast hosts about the future of legal design. One key takeaway from the discussion is how design thinking has been used to improve legal processes and outcomes for users for decades. It just didn’t have a “label.”  We talk about emerging research, case studies, and real-life examples that demonstrate the tangible impacts of legal design for lawyers.

Nina Toivonen is a lawyer and doctoral researcher at the University of Helsinki, Finland. Her doctoral research studies systemic (human-centric) design of law, especially to design personal insolvency regulation and policy. Nina has a master’s degree in legal design and legal expertise from the Laurea University of Applied Sciences, and she is the co-founder and co-host of Legal Design Podcast. Nina has worked as a Legal Designer and a Lawyer at the City of Helsinki Legal Services.

Henna Tolvanen is a legal operations lawyer exploring the intersections of law, technology, design, and creativity. She works at Fondia Oyj, an award-winning legal service provider, helping clients optimize their legal processes and ensure the smooth functioning of their legal departments. Henna is the co-founder and co-host of Legal Design Podcast.
